This autumn promises to be an exciting season for entertainment, with a wide range of new releases in television, literature, and music.
Television Highlights
For fans of domestic drillers with expensive furnishings, two shows are set to premiere on Netflix: "The Animal in Me" (November) and "All of Your Guilt" (November). The prolific super producer Ryan Murphy also has two shows lined up: the latest installment in his "Monster" franchise (October), which focuses on the serial killer Ed Gein, and the legal drama "Everything is Fair" (November) starring Kim Kardashian. Additionally, the final season of "Stranger Things" is expected to be a major television event, with the first four episodes airing in November and the remaining three episodes airing on Christmas Day, culminating in a feature-length finale on New Year’s Eve.
Books
The autumn season will see a plethora of new book releases from renowned authors. Reconciliation author Ian McEwan’s speculative novel "What Can We Know?" (September) is set in Britain in 2119. Thomas Pynchon’s "Shadow Card" (October) is a wild escapade through a private eye in Milwaukee during the Prohibition era. Philip Pullman’s "The Rosenfeld" (October) is the final chapter in his Book of Dust Trilogy and features his famous heroine Lyra Silvertongue. Salman Rushdie’s "The Eleventh Hour" (November) is a collection of short stories that explore mortality in England, India, and the USA.
Rising Stars in Literature
Rising stars in literature are also making a return this season. Patricia Lockwood’s "There Will Be Another You" (September) is a novel about a young woman disoriented by a mysterious illness. Mona Awad’s "We Love You Bunny" (September) is a dark academy novel and the successor to her 2019 hit "Bunny". Oyinkan Braithwaite’s "Cursed Daughters" (September) follows her 2018 bestseller "My Sister, the Serial Killer". Celebrated British writer Olivia Laing’s second novel, "The Silver Book" (November), is a queer love story set in post-war Italy.
Non-Fiction Releases
In non-fiction, Zadie Smith’s "Dead and Alive" (October) is a new collection of essays that cover cultural topics such as Stormzy and the 2022 film Tár. Patti Smith’s "Bread of the Angel" (November) is a memoir from the rock legend and award-winning author of "Just Kids". Margaret Atwood’s "Book of Lives" (November) is the long-awaited memoir from the author of "The Handmaid’s Tale".
Music
The music scene is also set to thrive this autumn, with several highly anticipated album releases. Cardi B is back with her second studio album, "I’m the Drama?" (September), which features a collaboration with Janet Jackson. Doja Cat is also releasing her fifth album (September), produced by Jack Antonoff, which promises to be a collection of catchy, retro-inspired bops. Florence and the Machine will release a new album, "Everybody Scream" (October), just in time for Halloween. Taylor Swift’s twelfth album, "The Life of a Showgirl" (October), is also expected to drop soon, although details are still under wraps.
