Introduction to Kidsuper’s "The People’s Runway"
"I’m here to look after!" Colm Dillane calls when he strolls into the Community Room of Brooklyn Borough Hall five days before the "The People’s Runway" show by Kidsuper’s. The designer is in Kidsuper Tracksuit Bottoms and Cap, a light blue speed New York City ‘T-shirt and Nike gymnastics shoes.
Meeting the Aspiring Designers
Dillan’s greeting is aimed at four of the five aspiring designers who will show themselves on Sunday evening during the event of Kidsuper X Brooklyn Borough Hall. Dillane usually shows in Paris, but always manages to perform during the Fashion Week in New York, the hometown of the brand.
The Event Concept
This season he decided to be in the official CFDA calendar. But instead of presenting a new collection, he commissioned five emerging Brooklyn designers to look after and present. The five designers are Ahmrii Johnson, Daveed Baptiste, Kent Anthony, Rojin Jung, and Shriya Myneni.
The Show Details
In cooperation with the president of Brooklyn Borough, Antonio Reynoso, the show is in cooperation, which means that it is financed by a mix of urban support and external sponsors. In accordance with the community ethos, the show is accessible to the public. Tuesday is the first time that Dillane meets the designers whose work are personally exhibited.
Behind the Scenes
Before Dillane arrives, Johnson, Anthony, Jung, and Myneni are employed in their respective corners of the room, which is relatively sparse, apart from their clothing stones and some of Brooklyn Branded Dividers in a corner. Myneni, who has just completed in Parsons, fits a corset on a model. Later another model strolls, the Takeout and a large Dunkin ‘Donuts Iced Coffee. Johnson helps her get into a large, cobalt blue Bubble rock.
