Introduction to the 2025 Video Music Awards
The 2025 Video Music Awards from MTV have officially kicked off with the red carpet ceremony. This year’s event began with a one-hour pre-show special hosted by Nessa and Kevan Kenney on Sunday, September 7th, at 7 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT. The pre-show was broadcast live on multiple channels, including MTV, BET, Comedy Central, CMT, LOGO, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land, and VH1.
Pre-Show Special and Red Carpet
Before the main ceremony, the stars walked the red carpet, giving fans a glimpse of their stylish outfits. The pre-show special also featured a special performance by the girl group Katsye, who performed their execution "Beautiful Chaos" EP, including the songs "Gnarly" and "Gabriela". This year’s nominees include Lady Gaga, who leads the pack with 12 nominations, including video of the year, artist of the year, and album of the year for "Chaos". Bruno Mars follows closely with 11 nominations, while Kendrick Lamar has 10. Some of the notable nominees for video of the year include Lady Gaga’s "Those with a Smile", Bruno Mars’ "The With a Smile", Rosé and Mars’ "Apt", Ariana Grande’s "Brighter Days Ahead", and Billie Eilish’s "Birds of a Feather".
Award Ceremony and Performances
The award ceremony will feature appearances and performances by some of the biggest names in music, including Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Warren, J. Balvin with DJ Snake, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Tate McRae, and Conan Gray. The ceremony will be hosted by LL Cool J and will be broadcast live on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and streaming on Paramount+.
