New Movie Releases This Weekend

This weekend, several new movies are hitting theaters, including Universal’s Downton Abbey: The Great Finale, Liongate’s The Long Walk, and Sony’s The Spine Tap II: The End Continues. Downton Abbey: The Great Finale is opening in 760 cinemas, making it the widest opening of the series to date, surpassing the 2019 original and 2022’s A New Era.

Downton Abbey: The Great Finale

Downton Abbey: The Great Finale is directed by Simon Curtis and features many familiar faces, including Joanne Froggatt, Dominic West, Hugh Bonneville, and Paul Giamatti. The story revolves around a public scandal that puts the household at Downton Abbey at risk of financial problems and social shame. The previous films in the series opened with £3.1 million and £5.2 million, respectively.

The Long Walk and Other New Releases

Liongate’s The Long Walk, a Stephen King horror film, is opening in 541 cinemas. The movie is set in a dystopian world where a group of young people participate in a hiking competition with fatal consequences. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, who has had success with previous films in the The Hunger Games franchise.

Other new releases include Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle, a beat anime title opening in 472 locations for Sony, and The Spine Tap II: The End Continues, a mockumentary continuation of a fictional British rock band, opening in 405 cinemas.

Additional Releases

Several other movies are also being released this weekend, including:

  • Dogs in the Opera, a Russian animation film opening in 182 locations
  • Aabeer Gulaal, a romantic comedy in Indian cinema, and Wonder, a sci-fi campaign, opening in 95 and 70 cinemas, respectively
  • Kishkindhapuri, a horror film, opening in 35 cinemas
  • Deaf, a Spanish film about a relationship between a deaf woman and her hearing friend, opening in 30 locations
  • Islands, a German drama, opening in 27 locations
  • The Man in My Basement, a horror title, opening in 19 locations
  • Hold Sound, a documentary film, opening in four cinemas

These new releases offer a wide range of genres and stories, providing something for every type of movie fan.
