Sabrina Carpenter’s Powerful Performance
Sabrina Carpenter used her debut performance of her song "Tears" during the MTV Video Music Awards 2025 to represent transgender rights on Sunday evening. The optimistic performance took place on an outdoor set that resembled the streets of the 1990s in New York City.
A Star-Studded Performance
She was accompanied by Drag Queens Honey Balenciaga, Sime, Dashaun Wesley, Richie Shazam, Juwelen, Lexi Love, Jonte ‘moan and Denali, when she was inspired by the music video of the song, in which Colman Domingo was dressed in Drag. In addition, she was accompanied by dancers in retro outfits and male dancers in police uniforms. When Carpenter and the actors danced on stage, many of the drag Queens went back and forth with stream items that promoted transit rights. "Protect transit rights," was a sign, while another explained: "In trans, we trust."
The Performance Details
Carpenter started the performance with a sparkling dress with marginal details, although she took the layer to reveal a sparkling bra and black tights when she and the actors made the "dance break" part of the single. Rain then started to fall on the stage when Carpenter and the actors made a choreographed dance.
Nominations and Awards
Carpenter not only accepted the event as a performer, but was also nominated for nine awards. It was for the best pop artist and the album of the year for Short ‘n sweet. In addition, the leading single from Carpenter’s The best friend of man The album "Manchild" was nominated for video of the year, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Song of the Summer.
Past Experience at the VMAs
Carpenter is not a stranger for the VMAs, as previously occurred during the 2024 event at the award ceremony. At that time, Carpenter sang a medley of her hits "Please", "key" and "espresso". She also won her first VMA during the 2024 Awards Show in the Song of the Year category for "Espresso".
