Introduction to the iPhone Air
I was one of the first people in the world to try out the new iPhone Air. Details about the "thinnest" Apple Mobile were leaked before the start event this week, and I expected to think that it was a bit senseless. But actually, it’s pretty brilliant.
First Impressions
I had the chance to go hands-on with the smartphone at Apple Park in California this week. Apple showed four new cell phones, including the iPhone 17 and three improved Apple Watch models, and a fresh couple of AirPods. But the iPhone Air, with its shockingly thin 5.6mm profile, stole the show. It is what everyone is talking about.
Design and Build
The screen is a pretty huge 6.6 inches, which makes it larger than the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro. It is also very light at 165 grams. For comparison, my iPhone 16 Pro Max is 227 grams. The difference is day and night. The iPhone Air felt feather-light in my hand, although it was built from a weighty (and hard) titanium.
Camera and Battery Life
Apple has put most of the core components in the camera base so that the rest of the phone remains free for the battery. It is impressive and looks great. In addition, my early fears about the camera and the battery life could not be further from the truth. Apple says you get very healthy 27 hours of video playback per charge from the iPhone Air. The camera also looks pretty smart, with a 48-megapixel fusion camera system that enables several focus lengths and a system-style system that delivers 2x zoom to what Apple describes as "optical quality".
Specifications and Price
The phone packs in Apple’s brand new and very powerful A19 Pro. And at $999, it is cheaper than both top-end models from Apple – the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max – by $100 or $200. It is one of the most striking iPhone models that we have seen for years, and I look forward to testing it.
Conclusion
The iPhone Air is a brand new mobile category for Apple, and it has managed to produce an extremely slim cell phone with apparently few compromises. The iPhone Air is only 5.6mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone to date. With its powerful camera, long battery life, and affordable price, the iPhone Air is definitely a game-changer in the world of smartphones.
