Introduction to Americana

One of Sydney Sweeney’s latest films will be available at home much earlier than expected. Lionsgate has confirmed that Americana will be officially available for rent or purchase on digital platforms such as Prime Video and Fandango at home on September 16. Sweeney stars alongside Paul Walter Hauser and Eric Dane in the neo-western, which explores the lives of local outsiders and outcasts whose paths intersect when a Lakota ghost shirt ends up on the black market in a small town in South Dakota. The film was written and directed by Tony Tost.

Reception of Americana

Americana has received a respectable 63% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, although it falls behind Sweeney’s other recent film, Reality, which earned a certified fresh label. The film has also been moderately well-received by audiences, with a 77% rating on the Popcorn Meter, making it the third-highest rated film of her career behind Everyone Else and Big Time Adolescence. As an indie film, Americana was not expected to be a major box office hit, but it has still underperformed, earning less than $1 million at the global box office.

Sydney Sweeney’s Career

Sweeney first gained recognition for her role as Eden Spencer in The Handmaid’s Tale, but it was her performances in HBO originals Euphoria and The White Lotus that catapulted her to fame. She is expected to reprise her role as Cassie Howard in the third season of Euphoria, which has a planned release date of 2026. Sweeney has also recently starred in a new film on Apple TV+, Echo Valley, alongside Julianne Moore.

Upcoming Projects

Sweeney’s next film, The Housemaid, is set to be released on December 19. The film follows a struggling woman who starts a new life as a housemaid for a wealthy elite couple. Sweeney stars alongside Brandon Sklenar and Amanda Seyfried in the film, which is directed by Paul Feig and based on the novel of the same name by Freida McFadden. Sweeney is also working on a new project with Taylor Sheridan, the director of the hit series Yellowstone, although details of the project have not been announced.

Film Details

Americana was released on August 15, 2025, and has a runtime of 110 minutes. The film was written and directed by Tony Tost and produced by Aaron L. Gilbert, Michael R. Williams, and others. The cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Paul Walter Hauser, and Eric Dane. The film is available for rent or purchase on digital platforms such as Prime Video and Fandango at home.
