Autumn Weather Forecast
The public is asked to prepare for the risk of probable flooding with above-average rain and wind this autumn. In the long-term forecast, the MET office takes higher chances of a strong jet stream and western winds, increasing the risk of a wet, windy, and possibly stormy season.
Regional Weather Variations
Although heavy rain and wind are not guaranteed, it is expected that western and northern parts of Great Britain will bear the main load. In the meantime, eastern and southern areas can experience drier conditions than the national average.
Drought Conditions
It is unlikely that the undefined weather will eliminate the current drought that will soon affect five areas of England, said the chief meteorologist at the MET Office. "The current forecast for the unexplained weather is unlikely to turn over the effects of drought in the next few weeks and autumn, especially in England. We will need more rain than that."
Climate Change Implications
However, this means that some areas could experience both drought and flood at the same time, which is symptomatic of climate change. It comes when the sunny season ended last week, with the hottest summer of Great Britain giving way to heavy rain in some areas.
Previous Weather Events
Last September brought severe rains and severe disruptions in the Midlands, before Storm Bert forced a big incident in Wales in November.
Public Preparation
The public is urged to register for flood warnings in their area, drive through floods, and prepare houses in order to accelerate recovery. Around 6.3 million properties in England are at risk of floods from the sea, rivers, or flood floods, according to the environmental authority.
Government Investment
The government has committed a two-year "record investment" of £2.65 billion to protect an additional 52,000 properties. It is said that it is on the right track to protect 25,000 houses in this financial year, with 3,800 of them signed so far.
Flood Defense Conditions
Officials confirmed that 92.7% of the country’s critical flood defense is under their necessary condition, with little change from 92.6% last September, and still below the optimal level of 98%.
Autumn Temperature Forecast
This autumn is probably also warmer than average, "a reflection mainly of our warming climate and how much has changed in the past 30 years," said the chief meteorologist. The warmer air also keeps more moisture and makes rains heavier.
Climate Warnings
In April, the country’s climate veins warned that the government is setting the country up for "disaster" unless it better prepares the UK for heavy flooding and intense heat.
