Independent Films Take Center Stage This Weekend

Indie publications are set to make a splash this weekend with the release of Jay Duplass’ new feature film, a Sundance hit, as well as a handful of urgent documentaries and animated films. One of the most anticipated releases is Twoless, a Chinese evening casser winner that has gained significant attention on the festival circuit. Additionally, Light of the World, an animated film from a non-profit collective, will be opening on over 2,000 screens.

New Releases and Expansions

Hit, a film directed by Jay Duplass, will be expanding to 100 screens after a successful limited release. The film has received critical acclaim, with a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Love, Brooklyn will also be expanding to 100 screens, while Splitsville and Lurker will be hitting cinemas. Meanwhile, The Baltimorons will be opening in New York, with Q&A sessions scheduled at various theaters.

Hit

Hit tells the story of Cliff, a luckless comedian who meets a sharp and charming dentist named Didi on Christmas Eve. Written by Duplass and Michael Strassner, the film marks Duplass’ return to directing after a 14-year hiatus. With its unique blend of humor and heart, Hit is sure to resonate with audiences.

Twoless

Twoless follows the story of two young men, Novel and Dennis, who meet in a twin care group and form an unlikely friendship. As they navigate their relationships and identities, they must confront secrets that could change everything. With its thought-provoking themes and engaging storyline, Twoless is a must-see for fans of independent cinema.

The Legend of Hei 2

This mythical fantasy follow-up from Gkid’s will be debuting on 340 screens. The film continues the story of Luye, the last disciple of his Shifu Wuxian, as he navigates a conspiracy that threatens both the spirit and human worlds. With its stunning hand-drawn animation, The Legend of Hei 2 is a visual feast that is not to be missed.

A Wild Art: The Life & Cartoons of Pat Oliphant
