Introduction to Proenza Schouler’s New Era

As one of today’s most famous global design talents, Rachel brings a fresh and female perspective to a brand that is built on the spirit of the modern American woman. Her profound understanding of Proenza Schouler’s brand codes, coupled with her extraordinary ability to marry innovation and craftsmanship, was the natural decision to lead the brand forward.

History of Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler was founded in 2002 by Hernandez and McCollough. The label is named after the mothers of the duo, and its first collection was bought by Julie Gilhart. In 2004, Proenza Schouler became the first CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund recipient. The label is known for dressing some of the most stylish women in New York and for launching an important IT bag of the late 2000s, the PS1.

Challenges and Milestones

Despite a promising start, Proenza Schouler faced several roadblocks in its early years. Hernandez and McCollough brought their collection to Paris in 2017, but the experiment was short-lived and did not yield the expected rewards. They returned to New York Fashion Week in September 2018 and regained a controlling share of the company. When Hernandez and McCollough left the label in January, Proenza Schouler had regained its industry position and stability.

New Chapter for Proenza Schouler

When Hernandez and McCollough left Proenza Schouler, they knew that the story would continue, but they did not know who would write the next chapter. Rachel is someone whose work they have always admired, and they are proud to welcome her to the brand. Her trajectory has been impressive in recent years, and they are excited to see how she will develop and evolve the legacy and spirit of what they started.

Rachel Scott’s Debut

Although her label in New York is well-respected, Scott has never staged a runway show for Diotima. Her first show for her own label will take place on September 15, after the Proenza Schouler SS26 collection is unveiled. The official debut collection of the designer for Proenza Schouler will be for AW26, which will be displayed in February 2026. Next week, Scott will make history as the only woman of color to take on a new role in a major fashion house, making her presentation not just unforgettable but also historical.
