Introduction to a Unique Birth Story

A mother in Michigan gave birth to her fourth child, a daughter named Matilda, in a rather unexpected location – a McDonald’s parking lot. This unusual birthplace has earned the baby a special nickname, "Mctilly," a nod to the fast food chain where she first arrived into the world.

The Events Leading to the Birth

The mother, Alyce Rotunda, had been experiencing contractions on August 10th, which also happened to be her birthday. However, when she visited the hospital, the staff informed her that she was not yet in labor and sent her home. Later that evening, the contractions resumed, signaling that it was time to give birth.

A Rapid and Unpredictable Labor

On August 11th, around 2 a.m., Rotunda’s pain became unbearable, unlike anything she had experienced with her previous three children. Her husband drove her to the hospital, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Due to the rapid progression of her labor, they realized they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time.

The Birth in the McDonald’s Parking Lot

In desperation, Rotunda’s husband called 911 for guidance as he drove to the nearest location, which happened to be a McDonald’s parking lot in Schoolcraft, south of Kalamazoo. Upon arrival, Rotunda got out of the minivan, and with the assistance of a 911 operator and a policeman who arrived on the scene, she gave birth to her daughter. The baby was caught by her husband, Kevin, as she was born, and to their relief, she started crying immediately, indicating that she was healthy and breathing.

Aftermath and Health of Mother and Baby

After the birth, both mother and baby were taken to the hospital, where they were found to be in good health. The baby weighed 7 pounds and 14 ounces, and her blood tests came back normal. The family feels fortunate and grateful for the safe arrival of "Mctilly," their little nugget, who has brought them immense joy.
