Introduction to KPOP Demon Hunters
Netflix has revealed the most popular film of all time, with a new title taking first place. The first place was previously held by Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, but that has now been overtaken by an even larger Netflix title.
The New Number One
KPOP Demon Hunters has risen to the top, with a total of 236 million views, making it Netflix’s most popular film ever. The 2025 US musical animation follows a K-Pop girls group called Huntr/X and its secret double life as demon hunters. The group is set against the competing boy band The Saja Boys, whose members are disguised.
The Film’s Success
The film was produced by Sony Pictures Animation and led by Maggie Kang, a Canadian film director born in Seoul, South Korea. Kang described the film as a "love letter to K-pop", which is the short name for Korean popular music, now widespread in the west. The film cost $100 million to make and received enthusiastic reviews for its animation, voice acting, action, and music.
Netflix’s Reaction
"KPOP Demon Hunters has risen high, and it’s her golden moment," said Netflix in an explanation. The film also became the most-watched film in number one with 25.4 million views. Netflix has even released a singing-along party at home that is now streaming on the app, titled KPOP Hunter’s Sing-Along.
The Cast
The film stars Arden Cho as Huntr/X lead singer and bandmate May Hong as Mira and Ji-Young Yoo as Zoey. Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim and Hangover’s Ken Jeong also appear in the film as a healer Han and Agent/Manager Bobby.
The Soundtrack
The KPOP Demon Hunter’s soundtrack album has also risen to the top positions in music charts. The soundtrack features the original song "Takedown" by two members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung. "I have been a fan of this incredible artist and her work for many years," said Kang. "So it is a dream to have written and produced original songs for our film of legendary talent such as the black label for our film."
Future Projects
There is still no official word on a sequel, but Netflix reports are working on several follow-up projects, including film progress, a TV series, a short film, and even a stage musical. KPOP Demon Hunters has taken the lead over several other major Netflix hits, including Red Notice, Hand Luggage, and Do Not Look.
