Introduction to a Thrilling New Movie
With a fantastic festival less than a month from its 20th anniversary, director Diana Mills-Smith has a delicious new thriller for the occasion that comes from South Africa. The feature debut, Dinner to Die For, will do its world premiere at the United States’ largest genre film festival and offer a curvy three-course menu that quickly becomes very chaotic.
The Plot of Dinner to Die For
Dinner to Die For follows two enthusiasts of true crime, Hannah (Shamilla Miller) and her friend Evan (Steven John Ward). During the day, Hannah is a culinary photographer who takes pictures of author cooking books and similar projects. One night, while the couple enjoys a few gruesome stories about dinner and wine, Evan suggests they shake things up by playing their own killer scenario. A girl next door includes his proposed idea and a killer meal, which is fun until it becomes a bit too real and very messy. Suddenly the cozy scenario turns into a tense thriller for deception and confrontation, while the night unfolds and the truth takes place.
The Cast and Crew
Mills-Smith had only three actors to work with for her first feature, but that was more than enough for the close, controlled story she wanted to tell. Miller brought a résumé to the table that contained the selection of the 2022 International Film Festival from 2022, The Umbrella Men. Ward, on the other hand, could be known from Netflix’s live-action A Piece adaptation, where he played the strongest swordsman in the world, Dracule Mihawk, in season 1. Nina Erasmus, who previously had a small turn in Netflix’s carefree musical Rome com comment Little Big Mouth, plays the girl next door in Evan’s story, Blaire, who starts in the trailer as a customer before triggering a little more with Hannah, which ultimately leads to serious difficulties and an apparently innocent meal that may hide something scary.
