Per Holst, a renowned Danish filmmaker and producer, has passed away at the age of 86. According to his son, actor Morten Holst, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, the cause of death has not been disclosed.

As reported by Denmark’s state possession channel TV 2, another son, Anders Holst, shared that his father died peacefully on Saturday morning. Anders expressed his pride in his father’s cultural heritage, stating, "He leaves a cultural heritage that we are proud of his name." He also mentioned that his father remained active until the end, enjoying activities such as reading, watching films, and engaging in conversations.
A Productive Career
Per Holst was a prolific producer, having worked on dozens of films since the late 1960s. He collaborated with notable Danish filmmakers, including Lars von Trier, Nils Malmros, and Bille August. Some of his notable works include Trier’s "The Element of Crime" (1987), Malmros’ "Tree of Knowledge" (1981) and "Pain of Love" (1992), and August’s "Pelle the Conqueror" (1987), which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988 and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 1989.
Notable Films and Achievements
Holst also produced the 1985 film "Walter and Carlo – Up on Daddy’s Hat," the first in a series of buddy comedy films that remain influential in Danish cinema. In 1965, he founded his own production company, Per Holst Film, under which he produced the cartoon "Benny’s Bathtub" (1971). Throughout his career, Holst held various leadership positions in film organizations, including chairman of the European Film Academy (2000-2005) and director of the sales company Nordisk Film (1991-2002).
