Introduction to Price Increase
PlayStation 5 video game consoles are about to experience a significant change in the USA. Starting from August 21, the price of a PlayStation 5 will increase by $50, from the current price of $499.99 to $549.99.
Reason for the Price Increase
The company attributed this price increase to the "challenging economic environment". However, it’s worth noting that the pricing for the console in markets outside the USA will remain the same, as stated by Sony.
New Pricing for Different Models
From Thursday, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which does not include a hard disk drive, will cost $499.99. On the other hand, the more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro will cost $749.99. Sony has confirmed that it will not be increasing the price for PS5 accessories.
Comparison with Other Gaming Console Manufacturers
Other gaming console manufacturers have also increased their prices recently. Microsoft, the manufacturer of Xbox, increased the price of its Xbox Series X by around $100 to $599.99 in May. Similarly, Nintendo announced new pricing for its original console in the USA in August, citing "market conditions" as the reason for the change.
