Introduction to Men’s Hairstyles
According to a new survey, one of five men gets a haircut. The survey of 2,000 US men showed that 21% felt "nervous" when asking their stylists or hairdresser for a new hairstyle. And another 23% were afraid to ask for certain haircuts in the past, even if they really wanted them.
Overcoming Fears and Trying New Styles
Seventeen percent have tried to avoid it by asking their stylists about a "watered down" version of what they really want. A third (36%) stated that they were successful by showing their stylists a reference photo of what they want. A majority of them (88%) said their stylist did what they wanted – the haircut that fits perfectly on the reference photo.
The Importance of Stylist Relationships
More than half (57%) have a certain person who cuts their hair, and 74% believe that having confidence in their stylists or hairdressers has a major impact on which haircut they have. In fact, a third (32%) of men with certain stylists said that their bond is so tight that they consider their stylists as "practically family". Another 16% consider them part of the close friendship group, while 29% consider their stylist or hairdresser as a friend, but only during the haircuts.
Learning About Hair and Hairstyles
According to the survey, stylists and hairdressers have helped men learn which styles fit their hair type (41%), which styles fit their face shape (40%), how often they should get a haircut (37%), which means different clipper lengths (31%), and even how they can keep their style and haircut at home (31%).
Current Hairstyles and Considerations for Change
The study showed that the average man receives a haircut 10 times a year and has had the same hairstyle for seven years. Most (84%) stated that they feel safe with their current hairstyle, and 55% never considered changing it. But that does not mean they would not consider a new look. Men surveyed believe that they can successfully pull off certain styles.
