Introduction to Tahora Ismaili
At the age of 16, Tahora Ismaili, an athlete and refugee from Taekwondo from Afghanistan, lives an inspiring story of endurance and hope for women and girls in her home country.
Her Journey
"I left my country when I was much younger and put a long way. I had many difficult challenges on the way," she said. This year she competed under the refugee flag at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia. For her it meant that she was "seen" and her "voice was heard".
Support and Guidance
Ehsan Naghibzadeh, a 35-year-old former Iranian national athlete Taekwondo, who is also a refugee, was a great support for Ismaili. As a trainer, he also illuminates the important hurdles that occur by refugee athletes.
Her Aspirations
Ismaili strives to be a role model for others and to say that she just wants to "continue". Her story is one of perseverance and determination, serving as a beacon of hope for those facing similar challenges. With her courage and resilience, she aims to inspire and empower women and girls in her home country, proving that even in the face of adversity, the human spirit can thrive.
