Introduction to Topshop’s Revival
The models Cara Delevingne and Adwoa Aboah, along with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, were among the famous faces that turned out to support the return of one of Britain’s best-known wholesalers: Topshop. Topshop was closed in 2020 after its owner Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia Group collapsed and had sold off all of Topshop’s physical business shortly afterwards.
Topshop’s Online Presence
The brand then appeared on the online fashion website ASOS, but never restarted its own independent website. After years of only gaining traction via ASOS and online channels, Topshop has completely revived its independent digital presence. On August 15, 2025, the brand restarted its own website and has now celebrated its comeback with a public runway show on Trafalgar Square.
Plans for Physical Stores
Independent shops are returning to the High Street, confirmed by Michelle Wilson, Managing Director of Topshop and Topman. A "semi-permanent" High Street presence is planned for later this year, with permanent independent business planned for autumn. The Trafalgar Square event, the first runway show from Topshop since 2018, was a public spectacle with some of the original muses of the brand, including Delevingne and Aboah, as well as a lively street party atmosphere.
Autumn/Winter 2025 Collection
The show made up for the autumn/winter 2025 collection, which is immediately available online in the "Now, now buy" format. The collection features long leather trench coats, metallic maxi dresses, and A-line skaters, and is unexpectedly soaked in nostalgia, reminiscent of the heyday of the Kate Moss brand, "Indie Sleaze" and the Jamie Skinny Jeans.
New Ownership and Future Plans
As a new owner, ASOS retains 25%, while the Danish retail giant Bestseller now holds 75%. Topshop has already started in physical retail over wholesale channels, starting with the McELhinney department store in Ballybofey, County Donegal, where clothing is offered for sale from August 21. It remains to be seen whether this revival marks a meaningful return or only takes in nostalgia. Fashion experts say that real success depends on how Topshop uses in a competitive and ripened retail landscape with socially conscious, digitally experienced millennials and Gen Z buyers.
