Introduction to Community Art Project
Two artists have worked with children and users of a well-being and cancer support center to create new murals in a city in Staffordshire. The local artists worked with students from a special education school and the Tamworth Wellbeing and cancer support center.
The Project’s Objective
The New Urban Era, which organized the projects as part of their Outreach program, said the initiatives had promoted "creativity, connection and performance among the participants". The wall paintings were painted in the two places on the walls where they are now being exhibited.
Project Development
The Art Group said that at the beginning of the projects it was consulted with the deputy head of the school and the manager of the Cancer Support Center. "These crucial discussions ensured that the projects were tailored to the special needs and skills of users, artists and locations and maximized their effects,"
The Creation Process
The artists led the participants through the Mural creation process, which began to "learn to learn their sessions", to research individual skills and principles of wall work.
Project Outcome
The school saw a core group of 12 students, which the project has completed, "what led to several inspiring murals that now decorate their space," . And a group of 15 users who take part in the Wellbeing Center made a "beautiful and meaningful" final murals.
Community Impact
"We are incredibly proud of the profound effects that this program had on the participants and the communities," . "By bringing art and cooperation directly to these important venues, we have not only created breathtaking visual pieces, but also encouraged an environment of healing, self-expression and connection.
Artist Development
Both artists successfully completed an NVQ Level 2 advisory course as part of the program to support their professional development in working in the health sector.
