Back to School with Netflix’s "C’s Get Degrees" Collection
As the calendar flips from July to August, the dreaded back-to-school season is just around the corner. But fear not, Netflix has the perfect remedy for this seasonal anxiety in the form of its "C’s Get Degrees" collection. The streamer debuted on August 1st, featuring a curated selection of classic films that focus on "school days, teenage angst, and first adventures."
Classic Films from the 1980s
The collection’s 1980s lineup includes John Hughes’ iconic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, where the titular character (Matthew Broderick) plays hooky with his neurotic best friend (Alan Ruck) and girlfriend (Mia Sara) for a wild adventure in Chicago. Another Hughes comedy, Weird Science, tells the story of a couple of goofball nerds (Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith) who accidentally create the perfect woman (Kelly LeBrock) through a scientific experiment. Additionally, Amy Heckerling’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a coming-of-age comedy that follows the lives of a group of teenagers, including Sean Penn and Jennifer Jason Leigh, over the course of a school year.
What 90’s and 00’s Movies are Included in the "C’s Get Degrees" Collection?
The "C’s Get Degrees" collection also features a range of films from the 1990s and 2000s. From the 1990s, the collection includes Amy Heckerling’s Clueless, a hilarious modernization of Jane Austen’s Emma starring Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd; Empire Records, a cult classic about a day in the life of a quirky record store; American Pie, the decade’s most iconic sex comedy; Varsity Blues, a football dramedy starring James Van Der Beek; Dazed and Confused, Richard Linklater’s legendary take on the 1970s that introduced the world to Matthew McConaughey; and She’s All That, a setting-too My Fair Lady with the unstoppable duo of the 1990s, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Matthew Lillard.
Films from the 2000s
The selection from the 2000s showcases a mix of comedy and drama. On the comedy front, there’s Wet Hot American Summer, a satirical take on 1980s summer camp films featuring a cast of emerging comedy stars, including Amy Poehler and Bradley Cooper; and American Pie 2, the cruder and lewder sequel to the original. For something more serious, the collection offers Friday Night Lights, a fact-based high school football drama that spawned a popular TV series, and Thirteen, a shocking portrayal of troubled teenagers.
New Netflix Original Content
The collection also features a brand-new Netflix production, My Oxford Year. This romantic comedy stars Sofia Carson (The Descendants) as Anna de la Vega, an American student studying at Oxford who finds more than academic fulfillment. The film also stars Corey Mylchreest, Dougray Scott, and Catherine McCormack.
Get Ready to Binge
The "C’s Get Degrees" collection premiered exclusively on Netflix on August 1, 2025. Stay tuned for future updates on Collider.
