New Sequel to The Social Network in the Works
The Social Network, a film that won several Oscars, is getting a sequel. Mikey Madison, who won the best actress Oscar for her role in Aor, and Jeremy Allen White, who is nominated for his third Emmy for his role in The Bear, are in talks to star in the new film. The movie will be written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who won an Oscar for penning the original film.
The Story Behind the Sequel
The new film will be based on a series of articles by Jeff Horwitz, known as the Facebook Files, which were published in The Wall Street Journal. The story will focus on how Facebook, now known as Meta, knew about the negative effects of social media on young people and children, but did nothing to stop it. The film will also explore how the company’s own reporting on the issue was ignored, and how misinformation was allowed to spread, causing violence.
The Cast and Crew
If the deals are finalized, Madison will play the role of Frances Haugen, a data engineer who went to the Securities and Exchange Commission and The Wall Street Journal with information about Facebook’s wrongdoing. White will play the role of a former WSJ tech reporter who led the investigation into the Facebook Files. The film will be produced by Sorkin, Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser.
Inspiration from Other Films
The project is said to have drawn inspiration from other films, such as The Insider, which told the story of a whistleblower who exposed the tobacco industry, and Spotlight, which focused on reporters who investigated the sexual abuse of children by Catholic clergy. The film is still in the development stage, but it is said to be a priority for the studio.
The Original Film
The original Social Network film, which was released in 2010, was directed by David Fincher and starred Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The film received eight Oscar nominations and won three. The new sequel is expected to be just as impactful, with a talented cast and crew bringing the important story to life.
The Stars’ Previous Work
Mikey Madison has received numerous awards for her work, including several nominations and wins at the BAFTA Awards and the Oscars. She has also appeared in films such as Scream and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Jeremy Allen White has won two Emmy awards for his work on The Bear and will next be seen playing Bruce Springsteen in a biopic about the musician’s life.
What’s Next for the Stars
Madison is set to star in a new adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Mask of the Red Death, which will be released in 2026. She was also in talks to star in a Star Wars feature, but the project fell through due to financial reasons. White will next be seen in the Springsteen biopic, which is set to be released on October 24th.
