Introduction to Don Zimmerman

Don Zimmerman, a renowned film editor, has passed away at the age of 81. He was known for his exceptional work on notable films such as the Rocky series, Night at the Museum, and Men in Black 3. Zimmerman received an Oscar nomination for his work on the 1978 film Return Home.

Early Life and Career

Zimmerman grew up in Los Angeles and began his career in the entertainment industry in the early 1970s. He worked in the editorial department on several projects, including The Landlord, Harold and Maude, The Last of Sheila, The Nickel Ride, Shampoo, and Bound for Glory.

Collaboration with Hal Ashby

After working on Hal Ashby’s 1971 film Harold and Maude, Zimmerman collaborated with him again on the 1978 drama Return Home. This film marked Zimmerman’s first solo editing project and earned him his first Oscar nomination for Best Film Editing. The two also worked together on Ashby’s 1979 film Being There.

Zimmerman’s extensive list of credits includes A Change of Seasons (1980), Barbarosa (1982), Best Friends (1982), Rocky III (1982), Rocky IV (1985), Cobra (1986), The Prince of Tides (1991), Leap (1992), Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), The Nutty Professor (1996), Wildly (1997), Patch Adams (1998), The Cat in the Hat (2003), Flight of the Phoenix (2004), Night at the Museum (2006), Meet the Robinsons (2007), Jumper (2008), Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009), Marmaduke (2010), Men in Black 3 (2012), and Red 2 (2013).

Legacy and Awards

In 2023, Zimmerman received the prestigious Career Achievement Award from the American Cinema Editors, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the film industry. His passing was announced by the public relations and marketing agency, Perception PR, who wrote, "Rest in peace, Don Zimmerman… He will be deeply missed."
