Poverty and Debt
Definition of Poverty
Statistics sees someone as poor if, after payment of fixed costs such as energy compensation, health insurance premium and housing costs, there is not enough money left for basic needs such as eating and drinking. In 2023, 540,000 people lived below this poverty line.
Problematic Debt
It is the first time that statistics also examines the connection between poverty and debt. Of the people below the poverty line, 163,000 have problematic debts that they cannot pay.
