Introduction to Materialist
The new film from Oscar-nominated author and director Celine Song, Materialist, is now available to stream online. Dakota Johnson plays a matchmaker who apparently cannot find "the one" for herself. Referred to as a "refreshingly complex view of modern love" by David Rooney, the critical-favorite film can be bought or rented online.
Where to Stream Materialist Online
Before streaming on HBO Max, Materialist can be bought or rented online from $19.99 on Prime Video, Apple TV, and elsewhere in 4K Ultra HD. Distributed by A24, Materialist is expected to stream on HBO Max when its current theater run is over at the end of August or early September.

Until then, Materialist can be rented in 4K Ultra HD for $19.99 or bought for $24.99 on Prime Video, Apple TV, and other video-on-demand platforms. Tickets to see the film in theaters can still be found at Fandango.com and elsewhere. If Materialist eventually lands on HBO Max, a subscription will be necessary to stream it. The streaming service starts at $9.99 per month with ads and is available as a Prime Video channel and on DirecTV.

Plot and Cast
Directed by Celine Song, Materialist follows Lucy (Dakota Johnson), a matchmaker who is known for pairing perfect couples – except when it comes to herself. She is caught between her perfect match Harry (Pedro Pascal) and her disgusting ex-boyfriend John (Chris Evans). The film also stars Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Emmy Wheeler, and Louisa Jacobson, among others. It runs for one hour and 57 minutes.
