Shake-Up at Lionsgate
The Lionsgate Motion Picture Group has undergone a significant change with the departure of Marketing President JP Richards and co-president Keri Moore. Their exit from the company is effective immediately, as announced on Monday afternoon.
New Leadership Structure
Their roles will not be filled immediately, and in the meantime, the Executive Vice Presidents (EVPs) of the group will take on more responsibilities to guide global campaigns. Amanda Kozlowski, EVP of strategy and chief of staff; Jack Teed, EVP of global creative advertising; and Nasim Cambron, EVP of worldwide publicity, will work together to lead the marketing efforts. Additionally, Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, will take on a more active role in overseeing the department.
Recent Changes at Lionsgate
This news comes less than a week after Lionsgate announced the departure of Nathan Kahane, president of the film production group, at the end of the year. The company has been undergoing some changes, and this latest development is part of the effort to adapt to the rapidly changing market.
Reason for the Departure
According to Adam Fogelson, the decision to part ways with Richards and Moore was made to "re-examine" the marketing group and meet the needs of the changing market. Fogelson praised Richards and Moore for their contributions to the studio, saying he is "deeply proud" of their work and grateful for their creativity, partnership, and talent.
Background of Richards and Moore
Richards and Moore joined Lionsgate as president and co-president of worldwide theatrical marketing in October 2022. They replaced Marisa Liston and David Edwards, who previously held the positions. Before joining Lionsgate, Richards worked at Warner Bros and Apple TV+, while Moore was at STX.
Upcoming Releases
Despite the changes, Lionsgate has a number of big releases lined up for the rest of the year, including "Luck", "Now You See Me: The Next Chapter", and "The Housemaid". The company is hoping to bounce back from a few disappointing releases this summer, including "Ballerina" and "The Weeknd-Jenna Ortega film".
Statements from Richards and Moore
Richards and Moore have both released statements expressing their gratitude and appreciation for their time at Lionsgate. Richards said he had a "rewarding" experience and enjoyed working with the team, while Moore praised Adam Fogelson and the team, saying they are "among the smartest, nicest, and most hardworking people" she has ever met.
Future of Lionsgate
The departure of Richards and Moore is the latest development in a series of changes at Lionsgate. The company has been rumored to be a potential target for mergers and acquisitions, but sources believe it is more likely to lead to co-production deals. As the company navigates these changes, it remains to be seen how the new leadership structure will impact its future releases and overall strategy.
