Ford Recall Notice

Ford has issued a recall for over 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles due to a potential fire hazard. The recall affects compact SUVs with a fuel injection nozzle that can crack and leak, leading to a fire.

Cause of the Recall

The recall comprises Bronco Sports from 2021 to 2024 and Escapes from 2020 to 2022 with 1.5-liter engines. A cracked fuel injection nozzle can cause fuel to leak onto hot engine components, increasing the risk of a fire.

Temporary Solution

The company does not yet have a permanent solution to the problem. However, Ford dealers will update the engine control software free of charge. Letters to notify the owners of affected Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles will be sent on August 18.

Previous Attempts to Fix the Problem

Ford has already attempted to fix the problem several times since November 2022. The earlier corrections included new software that would recognize a fuel leak and deactivate the high-pressure fuel pump, reducing engine output accordingly. However, in July 2024, the company discovered that a vehicle that had caught fire had a cracked fuel injector, despite having received one of the previous fixes.

Investigation and Recall

The company conducted subsequent investigations and discussions with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to issue the recall. A second letter will be sent to owners as soon as the final fix is available. Vehicle owners can contact Ford for more information, referencing number 25S76.

Owner Notification

Ford will send letters to notify the owners of affected vehicles. In the meantime, owners can contact the company directly for assistance. A permanent solution is expected to be available soon, and owners will be notified accordingly.
