Flight Delayed Overnight Due to Technical Issue
Some passengers on the Emirates flight EK086 to Dubai had a strenuous night at Zurich Airport after their flight was delayed overnight due to a technical problem on July 19.
Inconvenient Accommodations
While some travelers were supplied with hotel accommodation, others were not so fortunate, particularly those who could not leave the airport terminal due to visa restrictions. With most airport facilities and restaurants closing at 11 p.m., these passengers were effectively stranded without access to food, proper rest facilities, or clear information.
Passenger Frustration
Some affected passengers expressed their frustration, stating they had to spend the night in the corridors of the airport on makeshift beds. "We literally have nowhere to go and no way to wait comfortably. We’re set to fly tomorrow at 8 p.m.," said Negin Jafari, one of the passengers, around 1 a.m. on Sunday, July 20. She shared a photo of provisional beds in the terminal, writing: "This is how it ends for us. We have to wait for updates here until tomorrow. Our only hope for food is when the Emirates Lounge opens at 8:30 a.m."
Update on the Situation
Later in the morning, at 9 a.m., Jafari published another update: "We are still stuck here – hungry, exhausted, and without clear answers. We can’t even leave this area to buy food ourselves. Literally stuck at the airport. This is incredible."
Airline Response
An Emirates spokesman confirmed the delay, stating, "Emirates flight EK086 from Zurich to Dubai on July 19 experienced an overnight delay due to a technical issue. If possible, the affected passengers were provided with food and refreshments and hotel accommodation." The airline added that some passengers could not leave the airport, but they worked closely with the airport authority to ensure these passengers received the best possible support under the circumstances.
Resolution and Apology
The flight was rescheduled to depart on July 20 at 8 p.m. local time. Emirates apologized for any inconvenience, stating, "The safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance."
