Upcoming Movie Sequel

The author and director Rob Reiner is amazed by the love that Paul McCartney and Elton John still have to perform. Both legendary musicians will make an appearance in the upcoming continuation of the film. The follow-up to the cult classic from 1984 will hit cinemas on September 12th, courtesy of Bleecker Street.

The Plot

Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, and Reiner will star in the comedy about a heavy metal band that reunites for a last show. The movie promises to be an exciting continuation of the original story, with the band’s last concert featuring appearances by McCartney and John.

Inspiration Behind the Movie

During an interview with Aarp films for adults, Reiner was asked whether Spinal Tap’s last concert with appearances by McCartney and John is intended as an explanation for reinvention. Reiner replied, "Basically, no matter how old you are, if you still do it and enjoy it anyway, then do it." He also shared that he asked Paul McCartney about his motivation to continue performing, saying, "There are Mick Jagger, Elton John, and you still like to appear. What is it with you?"

The Love of Performing

Reiner continued to explain that the point is, these musicians just love what they do. If they have the chance, they will stand and play in front of an audience. This love of performing is what drives them to continue doing what they do best, even after all these years.

Excitement for the Sequel

In a joint statement earlier this year, the CEO of Bleecker Street, Andrew Karpen, and President Kent Sanderson expressed their excitement for the sequel. They stated, "We feel privileged to work with Rob Reiner and the brilliant minds behind the original This is Spinal Tap, and to be part of a film that has fallen in love with so many fans." The sequel promises to be a hilarious and entertaining ride, with the band’s last concert featuring appearances by some of the biggest names in music.
