Introduction to the Wimbledon Final

Italy’s Jannik Sinner sealed his first victory in the men’s tennis final on Sunday against Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in Wimbledon. Sinner took three hours and four minutes to defeat the two-time defending champion Alcaraz in four sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).

Sinner’s Achievement

The 23-year-old, who reached the Wimbledon final after his victory against Novak Djokovic, is already the first Italian to be classified by ATP as No. 1 in the world in the men.

Recent Match History

The game on Sunday came only five weeks after the couple had played an epic game to determine the French Open Champion, which Alcaraz won after he had saved three match points in a 5-hour, 29-minute match, the longest French open final in history.

Sinner’s Reaction

"I had a very difficult loss in Paris. But it doesn’t matter how you can win or lose the important ones, tournaments, you just have to understand what you did wrong and try to work on it," said Sinner after the game during an interview on the pitch. "This is certainly one of the reasons why I kept this trophy. I am very happy that I kept my nerves. It is an amazing feeling," he added.

Career Highlights

This title marks a fourth Grand Slam Singles title for the No. 1 Sinner, which complements two Australian openings and one US Open. His best results of the former Wimbledon were the semi-finals in 2023 and 2024.
