Honoring a Hollywood Legend
The Lumière Festival 2025 has announced that renowned Hollywood director Michael Mann will be honored with the prestigious Lumière Award. This French event celebrates classic cinema and recognizes the outstanding contributions of filmmakers to the industry.
A Great Artist
According to Lumière Institute and Festival Director Thierry Frémaux, Michael Mann is a "great artist directly from the Hollywood mythology" whose brand is "forever forever." Mann has directed several iconic films, including Heat, The Last of the Mohicans, The Insider, Ali, and Cyber.
Innovative Filmmaking
The Lumière Institute praised Mann’s filmmaking style, stating that it is "both rooted in a strong Hollywood tradition and embodies a personal and innovative cinema through his choice of subjects, his approach to directing, storytelling, and aesthetics." With a career marked by true independence and sometimes solitude, Mann is considered one of the most important filmmakers in the history of cinema.
A Prestigious Honor
Mann is the latest Hollywood icon to receive the Lumière Award, joining the ranks of esteemed directors like Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Quentin Tarantino, and Tim Burton, as well as actresses Jane Fonda and Isabelle Huppert. He will personally receive the award on October 17th during the 17th Lumière Festival, which runs from October 11th to 19th.
A Diverse Career
In addition to his feature films, Mann is also credited as one of the creative forces behind the 1980s hit TV series Miami Vice, which he produced for five seasons. He revisited the characters of Crockett and Tubbs in the 2006 feature film adaptation, starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. More recently, Mann returned to television with the acclaimed HBO Max series Tokyo Vice, which he executive produced and directed the pilot episode.

Mann’s latest feature film, Ferrari, stars Adam Driver as the legendary car racing figure Enzo Ferrari. He is currently in pre-production for the long-awaited sequel to Heat, following the success of his novel adaptation, Heat 2, which became a New York Times bestseller.
