Financial Struggles in the Film Industry

The film "Loner", a conspiracy thriller starring Bryan Cranston and Lily Gladstone, has been facing financial difficulties. Despite the star-studded cast, the production team is still short of around $2 million to complete the film. The main actors, however, are not among those still owed money.

Background of the Film

"Loner" is directed by Mark Pellington and features a talented cast, including O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Jennifer Ehle, Chet Hanks, and Spencer Garrett. The film tells the story of a restless veterinarian who struggles with addiction and is hired by a contractor to murder a high-ranking politician. The producing team includes Oscar nominee Christine Vachon and veteran producer Ted Hope.

Financial Challenges

The financial struggles of the film began during the early stages of production, with crew members experiencing delayed payments. Union representatives had to intervene, and the project was halted for several days after a SAG order. The original financier, Black Rabbits, a US stock investor and senior lender, claims to have fulfilled its financing obligations. However, the production company, Yale Productions, recently filed for bankruptcy, adding to the complications.

Efforts to Resolve the Issue

Producer Jordan Wagner, who has taken over the production authority, is working with other lenders and financiers to find a solution. Wagner Media Finance, led by Jordan Wagner, has been trying to close the financing gap and explore various financing options. The team is in talks with some executive producers to increase their share and reduce the budget. If a satisfactory solution cannot be achieved, legal steps may be considered by some producers.

Statements from the Producers

Jordan Wagner stated, "This process was extremely difficult and temporarily frustrating. We originally entered into a short-term loan with the producers and the funds, based on contractual loan. Essential complications, mainly due to a breakdown of the financing structure." He continued, "To make things worse, the original production company behind ‘Loner’, Yale Productions, had significant financial problems and, as previously reported, recently filed for bankruptcy."

Future of the Film

Despite the financial turbulence, the producers believe in the creative vision behind the film and are working to move forward. The sales partners are clear, with Vertical Entertainment handling North America and a handful of international buyers. Black Rabbits told us, "It is still our understanding that Lone Wolf LLC intends to pay all outstanding invoices. As previously mentioned, it is still actively supported that the production team solves the issue."
