Ari Aster’s Fear for Hollywood
Ari Aster, a writer and director known for his horror movies, has shared one of his greatest fears for the Hollywood industry. He has expressed his concern about the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in filmmaking and how some people are treating it as a god.
The Rise of AI in Hollywood
The use of AI in the film industry is becoming more prevalent, and Aster believes that it’s already too late to stop its advancement. He stated, "We’re in a race now," and that the development of AI is following the typical pattern of technological innovation, where if something can be done, it will be done.
Treating AI as a God
Aster has noticed that some engineers and people working with AI are treating it as a superior being. They talk about it as if it’s a divine entity, rather than just a technology. He quoted Marshall McLuhan, saying, "Man is the sex organ of the machine world," which highlights the idea that humans are becoming increasingly dependent on machines.
The Uncomfortable Truth About AI
Aster finds it uncomfortable that AI-generated content is becoming less scary and more realistic. He explained that humans have the capacity to adapt to new and strange things, but the rapid development of AI is happening without our control. He’s concerned that we’re losing our say in how AI is used and developed.
The Future of AI in Hollywood
Some people in the industry are trying to set standards for the use of "clean AI," which refers to AI that is transparent and fair. However, with the recent provision in the Senate that would exclude states from regulating AI for the next decade, Aster’s concerns about the industry’s reliance on AI are growing. He’s worried that we’re heading into uncharted territory, and the consequences of our actions will be significant. As he put it, "Holy cow, I cannot believe that we actually live and see what happens."
