Introduction to Cortisol

Cortisol is one of several hormones that help our body react to stress. Produced by the adrenal glands, it plays an important role in everything we do – from the guarantee that we can wake up in the morning, to falling asleep at night. We would die without them – but it’s a good balance. Too much cortisol can also cause a variety of health problems.

The Impact of Social Media on Cortisol Levels

Apparently, warnings of cortisol – a stress hormone that I know very little – have kidnapped my social media accounts. I see contributions that advise me to drink a cortisol cocktail – a mixture of orange juice, coconut water, and sea salt, a number of different nutritional supplements and a lavender balm into my temple. Not knowing how high my cortisol level is, it makes it difficult to know whether I have to lower it or not, but now I think about my cheeks seem to swim a touch than usual and my jeans feel a bit tight.

The Risks of Misleading Information

But Prof. Wass’s direct link on social media, between cortisol levels and changes in our body, questions, and describes this as "misleading". "All of these changes – weight gain, swelling of face – there can be so many other reasons – a bad night sleep, certain medication, too much salt, for example too much alcohol," he says. "It is highly unlikely that the cortisol levels are to blame alone – it is a complex picture."

The Dangers of Burnout

As the managing director of a small technology company, Jasleen Kaur Carroll was at the top of her game at the end of 20. But she tried to turn off and the work became her life. After all, things became so intense – with Jasleen under constant pressure – that it experienced burnout, complete physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion. "I felt like a zombie how everything was failing around me," explains the 33-year-old from London.

Finding Effective Solutions

Jasleen turned to social media to get advice on how to develop and reduce their cortisol levels. "You call it, I tried it," she says. "The cortisol cocktail, Ashwagandha tablets, turmeric, black pepper food supplements, lavender balm on my forehead -everything." But nothing worked. Jasleen’s body began to close, and the stress that she had triggered under the trigger of an autoimmune disease, she called Lupus, in which the immune system got out of control and incorrectly targeted healthy cells.

The Importance of Mindfulness

When Jasleen received treatment for lupus in the hospital, he realized that instead of trying to repair herself with social media hacks that she had to stop, had to take time and get help. Through the therapy, she worked a trauma that she had experienced in childhood and began to practice mindfulness – something that she taught at the moment. "Stress is a wonderful thing," says the therapist Neil Shah, who heads the stress management company. "Hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol are of crucial importance to protect us from a perceived threat.

Effective Techniques for Reducing Cortisol Levels

Experts recommend several techniques that can help reduce cortisol levels, including mindfulness, movement, magazines, promotion of close relationships, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). "Interestingly, every technique trains us to sit with complaints," says Prof. Creswell. "They are like small mini stressors – what could help us to deal with the great stressors who throw life on us."

The Risks of Quick Fixes

Experts not only do not "quick corrections" warn the real problems that many people may occur, but can also prevent those who need medical treatment to seek help. "We often get simplified solutions for a complex and potentially more serious problem," explains Wellbeing Expert Sir Cary Cooper. A high cortisol level can lead to weight gain around the face, the upper back, and the stomach – which could indicate a very rare disease called Cushing syndrome.

Conclusion

Jasleen has a new job with a large company for digital marketing. Although she was warned, she may not imagine and gave birth to a little girl eight months ago. It is determined not to repeat the burnout that she has experienced in the past, so that she conducts several exercises every morning without failure. Everyone claims to stimulate the nervous system, which helps her to relax and reduce her stress. "I gently knock on my body and earth," explains Jasleen. "I hold an imaginary ball between my hands and dry my body, stroke my skin and visualize the blood that flows to heart."
