Introduction to the Story

Terry Moran, a former ABC News correspondent, has spoken out about losing his job at the network after publishing a social media post criticizing President Donald Trump and White House aide Stephen Miller. In two interviews on Monday, Moran expressed no regret over his actions, stating that he believes in telling the truth.

The Incident that Led to Moran’s Departure

Moran wrote a post on X, a social media platform, calling Miller a "world-class hater" and stating that "hatred is his spiritual food." He also criticized Trump, saying that hate is "only a means to an end, and this end is its own glorification. That is his spiritual food." The post shocked Moran’s colleagues at ABC News and attracted public outrage from White House officials, including Miller, Vice President JD Vance, and Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Moran’s Response to the Backlash

The 65-year-old journalist, who had been with ABC News since 1997, stated that he doesn’t regret his post. "I don’t think you should ever regret the truth. And I don’t," he told the New York Times. Moran repeated this sentiment during a live-streamed interview with Tim Miller of The Bulwark, saying, "I wrote it because I thought it was true."

The Aftermath of Moran’s Departure

Moran’s contract with ABC News was not extended after the incident, and he has since started a Substack newsletter. He has gained over 90,000 subscribers on the platform, which allows him to share his reporting and analysis independently. Moran seems confident in his decision, stating, "We are free to speak our opinion here."

Moran’s Views on Journalism and Objectivity

Moran also shared his thoughts on the concept of objectivity in journalism. He believes that journalists should strive to be fair and accurate, rather than objective. "There is no Olympus of objectivity in which a mandarin class of wise people has no feelings towards their society," he told The Bulwark. Moran emphasized the importance of being fair and exact in one’s reporting, citing his own interview with President Trump as an example.

Moran’s New Venture

Moran’s Substack newsletter has given him the freedom to express his opinions and share his reporting without the constraints of a traditional news network. He seems to be enjoying this new chapter in his career, stating that he is able to speak his mind without fear of repercussions. With a growing subscriber base, Moran’s newsletter is likely to become a popular destination for those seeking independent journalism and analysis.
