Questionable Cooking Hack Goes Viral on TikTok
A recently posted video on TikTok has left viewers questioning the legitimacy of a cooking hack that involves using cucumber water to fry food instead of oil. The video, which has gained over 17 million views, shows a woman using the cut end of a cucumber to lubricate a pan before frying an egg.
The "Hack" in Action
In the video, the woman cuts off the tip of a large cucumber, which is approximately 96% water, and rubs the cut end on the bottom of her pan to create a non-stick surface. She then cracks an egg into the pan and fries it, seemingly amazed that the cucumber water has made the trick work. The egg is easily removed from the pan using a spatula and is served with sliced cucumber on the side.
Skeptical Viewers
However, not everyone is convinced by this unconventional cooking method. Many viewers have pointed out that the pan used in the video is non-stick, which would explain why the egg didn’t stick to it. "Do it on a stainless steel pan and then I will be convinced," one critic commented. Others have joked that the smooth surface of the pan is the real reason the egg didn’t stick, rather than the cucumber water.
Criticism from Italian Viewers
Some Italian viewers have also spoken out against the hack, claiming that no Italian grandmother would ever replace oil with cucumber water. "As an Italian, absolutely not," said one viewer. "No Italian grandma would replace oil." Another viewer added, "Bro, an Italian grandmother would never replace oil with anything."
Not the First Questionable Cooking Technique
This is not the first time that TikTok "gourmets" have been mocked for their alleged cooking techniques. Recently, some users were ridiculed for "discovering" the health benefits of "cooking with water" and were told that they had simply discovered "soup." The video has sparked a lively debate about the legitimacy of unconventional cooking methods and the importance of using proper cooking techniques.
