Introduction to Frankenstein
Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth performed on Saturday evening at Netflix’s Tudum event to debut a teaser of their upcoming film, Frankenstein. The event provided some insight into the Guillermo del Toro project. The film features Isaac as scientist Victor Frankenstein, with Jacob Elordi as the monster he creates, and Goth as Victor’s fiancée, Elizabeth Lavenza.
The Making of Frankenstein
Del Toro spoke about Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, as a long-term passion, something he has wanted to undertake for decades. On the carpet in front of the Tudum presentation, Isaac told The Hollywood Reporter about when Del Toro first brought up the idea: "I didn’t expect it. I just sat with him and talked, and after a long conversation, he looked up at me and said, ‘I think you have to be my Victor Frankenstein.’ I still can’t believe it."
Bringing the Characters to Life
Isaac described working with Del Toro as an incredible experience, saying, "He said, ‘I will make you a banquet as an actor,’ and that was what he did. Every day I came to set and was just excited and made all kinds of beautiful, difficult, expressive things." He also praised Del Toro’s support, saying, "I just had him as my brother, right there to help myself with every step of the way."
The Film’s Tone and Style
Del Toro previously stated that the project would not be a traditional horror film. Isaac described it as "a large, Mexican, dark, magnificent, dramatic character study." Goth added, "It’s an incredibly epic film. I’ve never been part of something like that, grand and epic, but it’s also incredibly emotional and deep."
The Monster’s Introduction
Although Elordi was not present at the event, his monster appeared briefly in the new film material. Isaac described it as "heartbreaking" to see Elordi in character for the first time and noted, "He is such a graceful, beautiful, sad, and arched portrait of this creature." Goth praised the team’s work on Elordi’s makeup, saying, "They did such a great job with this makeup" and remembered, "It was a tough process for him, he was in this makeup for hours, but it was worth it because the makeup was incredible."
Release Date
Frankenstein will arrive on Netflix in November, offering audiences a unique take on the classic novel. With its talented cast, intricate characters, and epic scope, the film is sure to captivate viewers and leave a lasting impression.
