Glastonbury Festival-Goers Left Out of Pocket

The Glastonbury tick holders were left out of pounds from pounds after a luxurious glamping company went bankrupt. Festival visitors who booked their tickets and accommodation at Yurtel were announced that the company can no longer meet its orders and has stopped trading with immediate effect.

Financial Loss

Some had spent more than £16,500 on Yurtel, with hospitality packages from £10,000. In an email, Yurtel said that customers could not provide any reimbursements and advised them to go through a third party to win the money back as soon as the liquidation process had started.

Unfulfilled Bookings

In order to insult injuries, the customers found that Yurtel had not bought the tickets for the 25th-29th June Festival, which they believed were booked as part of their packages. This means that customers will not only lose their money but also their chance to attend the festival.

Apology from Yurtel

In a letter to the customers, the founder of Yurtel said: "I’m deeply sorry for receiving this devastating news and writing to apologize. Yurtel is a hospitality business that is proud to take care of our customers, to deliver a unique product and to create a better customer experience from year to year. Due to the highlight of the factors in recent years, we have not been able to do this and are broken-hearted."

Customer Reactions

One of the customers, who spent thousands on Yurtel, said she was "absolutely disappointed" and felt "really torn down". She had booked with Yurtel in November and paid all the money a month later. This year’s festival was "really important" for her because she was forced to miss last year’s festival due to an operation.

Glastonbury’s Response

Glastonbury said that Yurtel was one of a small number of campsites on site on the festival field with a limited access to the purchase of hospitality tickets for their guests under certain circumstances. However, Yurtel had not paid for any tickets for the 2025 festival before going into liquidation, and so no tickets were secured for their guests.

Alternative Options

Glastonbury has asked Yurtel customers to contact them to confirm their consent to personal data and details of their party. The festival can then provide details about alternative potential sources for these customers to buy tickets and accommodations for this year’s festival. However, customers will have to pay again for the tickets, which is a disappointing option for those who have already lost large amounts of money.
