Introduction to Scream 7
In just a few months, the audience will say "hello, Sidney" to Neve Campbell when she reprises her role as Scream’s original Final Girl, Sidney Prescott, in Scream 7. She won’t be the only one returning to the fold, as her former co-stars Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley, and David Arquette will also make a comeback. Behind the scenes, Universal creators and Scream writer Kevin Williamson will guide the seventh installment.
Kevin Williamson Explains Neve Campbell’s Return
Kevin Williamson was asked what about Scream 7 made him want to sign on as a helmer, and for him, everything was because the studio said hello again to Sidney Prescott. "The company proposed it to me because they said: ‘This is about Sidney Prescott. It must be Sidney.’ That’s why I want to do it," Williamson explained. Although we do not know where the seventh film will take place, Williamson’s words seem to confirm that we will follow Sidney to her family, which has settled down with her husband Mark (played by Joel McHale) and their nameless daughter, played by Isabel May.
The Film’s Direction
The film will also feature Ghostfaces of yesterday, who were dead until the end of their installments, such as Lillard’s Stu Macher and Foley’s Roman Bridger, so it is rather unclear where the direction of this film is going. We have known that for some time Neve Campbell has not repeated her role in Scream VI due to discrepancies in pay, a decision that was supported by Williamson at the time. But the Dawson’s Creek creator says that it was also about the fact that Campbell’s previous script threw in a beloved character and how she played in history.
Campbell’s Role in Scream 7
"The wage discrepancy was so big, but it was also about the part. It was like: ‘You want me to show up with a weapon at the end of a film and help everyone shoot Ghostface? That’s great. I’ll do it.’ She was happy, but she also wanted a role," Williamson said. And according to Williamson (and also Scream 7 writer Guy Busick) Campbell will certainly play her role in the new film. "So we could use it and find a way. Working with Neve, we did it together. She was on every step of the way and she was so supportive and helpful. She guided me through a lot. I hope it shows it, but we had a great time."
