Introduction to New Management
Just a few hours after Real Madrid confirmed that they had signed the former Bayer Leverkusen boss Xavi Alonso to advance their club work, Bayer Leverkusen presented their new boss.
New Boss Announcement
Erik Ten HAG expressed his enthusiasm for joining Bayer 04, stating, "Bayer 04 are among the best clubs in Germany and also one of the top clubs in Europe. The club offers outstanding conditions. I was very impressed by the discussions about management." He continued, "I came to Leverkusen to continue with the ambition shown in recent years. It is an attractive challenge to prepare something together during this time and to develop an ambitious team."
Reaction from Sports Director
Sports director Simon Rolfes described the 55-year-old Dutch as a "experienced coach with an impressive track record", who referred to the six titles he won in Ajax.
Press Conference
At the press conference to reveal the new manager, Ten Hag resisted his time to speak to Manchester United, who released him last October and just said that that was "the past". Ten HAG, who signed a contract that would keep him in Leverkusen by the end of the 2026-27 season, said that he wanted to play "dominant, attractive football" in the club.
Replacement and Expectations
He replaces Alonso after the Spaniard did not duplicate his double campaign last season when Leverkusen took second place to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. Leverkusen was in the previous campaign in which Alonso wrote the story and led her to her first title in the league. With Ten HAG on board, the club is looking forward to a new era of success and exciting football.
