Introduction to Summer Flights
According to the CEO of the airline, the cheapest summer has been marked by repeated delays and canceled flights at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Expectations for Summer Travel
"Since we have lost many bookings, there are many more places," said the CEO of United Airlines. "It will be the cheapest thing that it will probably ever be in history. I don’t really like that, but you should book and it will least be overcrowded."
Challenges at Newark Airport
The accelerated summer planes come after a difficult month for New Jersey Airport, which was given a number of air traffic control problems by short staff and important failures of the antiquated Federal Aviation Administration Infrastructure, while a runway is closed for construction.
Safety and Improvements
Despite the challenges, the CEO repeated that the airport is safe and encourages travelers to book flights. A new fiber-optical cable between Philadelphia and New York will improve the reliability of the flight safety facility that will handle the flights in and from Newark. The Ministry of Transport hopes that the cable will be in operation by July.
Slot Controls and Flight Reductions
The CEO was an advocate of the slot controls at the airport and noted that the airport was unable to record the number of flights that he and his competitors had planned. The FAA announced that it cuts 25% of the flights a day to provide a band aid for the situation while the railway was continued.
Long-term Benefits
"This is at short notice, painful for us at Newark, but it is better in the long term, because the FAA will do what you do with JFK and Laguardia, ie manage the number of flights to be the same as the capacity of the airport," said the CEO.
