Introduction to Tin Soldier
It took a long time, but we finally know when to expect the action thriller Tin Soldier to hit our screens. Samuel Goldwyn Films has officially secured North American sales rights for the film, which boasts a powerhouse cast, including Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro, and Scott Eastwood. Directed by Brad Furman, known for The Lincoln Lawyer, Tin Soldier promises to be more than just a shoot-’em-up thriller, exploring modern warfare and the intersection with non-state actors.
The Long-Awaited Production
Years after the project was first announced, news about the film went quiet, leaving skeptics wondering if production had hit a snag. However, earlier this year, while promoting his spy film Wing, Eastwood provided an update on the status of Tin Soldier, stating that "it’s going to come out, it’s just a matter of where it comes out… The film market has been s**t for the last year and a half, two years. But I think it’s going to get better, or at least it should… I know that Tin Soldier was, you know, a fairly extensive film, and they want to sell it and get it into the best hands for the best number of viewers." Fortunately, Tin Soldier has successfully found a distributor and is slated for release later this year, with the exact date to be announced soon.
The Plot Unfolds
The film revolves around Bokushi, a charismatic leader of a militant veteran cult seeking purpose and belonging. The story follows Bokushi, played by Foxx, who preaches to hundreds of veterans drawn to him by promises of protection and purpose. Surrounded by his devoted followers, trained by military operatives, he builds an impenetrable fortress and accumulates an arsenal of weapons. After several failed attempts to infiltrate, the government recruits Nash Cavanaugh, a former special forces asset and ex-student of Bokushi, played by Eastwood, to take down the cult leader.
“Tin Soldier tells the story of Bokushi (Foxx), the sermonizer to hundreds of veterans who were drawn to him by the promise of protection and purpose. Surrounded by his pious supporters trained by military operatives, he built an impenetrable fortress and accumulated an arsenal of weapons. After several failed attempts to infiltration, the government recruits in the form of military operative Emmanuel Ashburn (De Niro) Nash Cavanaugh (Eastwood), a former special forces asset that was once a student of Bokushi. Nash agrees to use his vulnerable past and insider knowledge of the enigmatic guide to finally take revenge on the man who took everything from him, including the love of his life.”
A Stacked Cast
Tin Soldier will feature a stacked lineup, including John Leguizamo (John Wick), Saïd Taghmaoui (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum), Nora Arnezeder (Army of the Dead), Joey Bicicchi (Black Bird), Shamier Anderson (The Happiest Man in America), and Rita Ora (Twist). Although their character descriptions have not been revealed, further details may be announced soon, possibly with the trailer.
Release and Updates
Whether Tin Soldier will be the next breakout action hit remains to be seen, but with its talented cast and ensemble, it’s definitely one to watch. The film is set to release later this year, with a date to be announced soon. Stay up to date on Collider for updates on Tin Soldier and other upcoming films.
