A man has spent $23,000 traveling the world with his two cats, visiting famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris and exploring the canals in Amsterdam. The 27-year-old owner, along with his wife, has brought their cats to 10 countries, including Siberia, Spain, France, and Mexico, since receiving them in 2023.
The Cats’ Travel History
The cats, King Louie and Todd, are British shorthairs who were received by their owner in 2023. Since then, they have traveled to numerous countries, with their first trip being to Toronto, Canada, followed by Mexico City in April 2024. The owner, a content creator from Chicago, Illinois, trained the cats to be adventurous from a young age, gradually exposing them to loud noises in the city.
Training for Travel
The owner began training the cats by taking them to parks and shopping centers to get them accustomed to loud noises. They were very adaptable, and within a week of being brought home, they were taken outside. The owner gradually exposed them to louder environments, such as shopping centers and the city center, to prepare them for travel.
Travel Experiences
The cats have had various travel experiences, including a four-hour flight to Mexico City, which they handled well. They have also visited Hungary, Netherlands, Croatia, and Montenegro on a European trip. The owner stated that the cats loved strolling through the streets of Paris and exploring the quiet canals of Amsterdam.
Flying with Cats
When it comes to flying with the cats, the owner pays an average of $600 for animal care for both cats. Some countries also require a rabies vaccine and a travel health certificate, which can cost up to $500. The owner has faced challenges, such as the cats not being allowed out of their carrier during flights, but most airlines have made exceptions for them to sit alongside their owner.
Challenges and Solutions
One of the challenges the owner faced was that one of the cats, Louie, was very hideous and got nervous due to loud noises. To address this, the owner took Louie out every day for half an hour to help him relax. The owner also noted that Louie hates being restricted to his carrier on the plane and feels bad when they can’t take him out.
