Return of Key Players
Kai Havertz, who has just returned from thigh surgery, as well as the injured Jamal Musiala, Antonio Rüdiger, Timo Werner, and Nico Schlotterbeck, have been called up to the 26-member squad by Julian Nagelsmann, who has also just returned from a thigh operation.
New Additions to the Team
Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade and midfielder Tom Bischof, who recently signed for Bayern Munich from Hoffenheim, have both received their first calls to the senior national team. They are scheduled to compete in Munich on June 4.
Good Option in Attack
"Nick (Woltemade) is a good option in the attack, especially with the absence of some key players," said Nagelsmann about the Stuttgart player, who will join the squad after the German Cup final against Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday. Woltemade was also included in the Antonio Di Salvo squad for the U21 Euro in June.
Returning Players
Goalkeepers Marc-André Ter Stegen, Florian Wirtz, Niclas Füllkrug, and Serge Gnabry are among the notable names returning to the national team.
Complete Trust in Ter Stegen
Nagelsmann was particularly pleased to get his keeper No. 1 back, who recently returned to Barcelona’s squad after missing most of the season due to a knee injury. "Of course, he hasn’t played that many games yet," admitted Nagelsmann. However, he expressed full confidence in Ter Stegen after talking to the player and being assured by Barca coach Hansi Flick that he was "in top shape".
Upcoming Matches
Nagelsmann expressed confidence that Germany could pass Portugal in the final on June 8, "but we cannot let up a single gear compared to the best moments of the quarterfinals against Italy because I look at the Portuguese as a very strong team." France and Spain will meet on June 5 in the semi-finals of the Nations League in Stuttgart.
