Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson Team Up for Action Thriller “Runner”
Alan Ritchson has traded in the backwaters of the American Midwest for the sun-soaked chaos of Queensland, Australia, as production nears the finish line on the upcoming action thriller “Runner”, which pairs him with none other than Owen Wilson. The film, currently shooting in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, stars Ritchson as Hank Malone, a highly skilled courier tasked with a mission of life or death: delivering a vital organ through enemy territory to save the life of a critically ill girl.
The Plot Thickens
Of course, things quickly go awry as shadow forces sabotage the delivery. Think “Crank” meets “Midnight Run” with a little more emotional depth – and apparently a lot more blood. Ritchson took to Instagram to share a slew of behind-the-scenes photos, including several shots of himself bloody and bruised, and teased the brutality of the film. In the caption, he praised the team behind “Runner”, calling it one of the most important projects he’s worked on.
Praise for the Team
“We’re rapidly approaching a wrap on ‘Runner’. Some of the performances in this film are among the best I’ve ever been a part of,” wrote Ritchson. “Owen Wilson is one of the most talented guys I’ve worked with. Super brilliant mind and one of the kindest guys in the world. Insane ability to cut directly to the heart and soul of a scene or piece of dialogue.”
He also called out director Scott Waugh (Need for Speed, 6 Underground) for his cinematic flair, labeling him “a shooter” who brings a lot of size and style to the set. “He crushes it,” added Ritchson.
Who Else is in “Runner”?
The film also stars Leila George as Kate Baker, Rodrigo Santoro as Damián Zaldívar, and Sullivan Stapleton as Josh, with a script written by Miles Hubley and Tommy White. Production is overseen by Todd Garner from Broken Road Productions, Mark Fasano from Nickel South Pictures, Jeffrey Greenstein from Higher Standard, and executive producers Gennette and Matthew Goldberg.
Director’s Vision
Director Waugh told Deadline that he believes the casting of Ritchson and Wilson will deliver something that fans never knew they needed. “This pairing is something that the audience has been hungry for. And we’re striving to achieve the unexpected from the side-turning script that Miles and Tommy delivered.”
