The Future of James Bond

The future of James Bond remains undecided, with the sale of the franchise by the owners Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson to Amazon and the producers scratching their heads, as was finally introduced 007 after the character of Daniel Craig’s death in No time to die.

A New James Bond?

All stakeholders could be worse than Alexander Skarsgard’s offer of a Swedish James Bond, an excess of the necessary bond traps – Tuxedo, license for killing, way with the ladies – but with a particularly Scandinavian flair.

Skarsgard’s Vision

The topic came up in an interview with The Times of London, where the Big Little Lies actor said he had previously joined the national service of his country: "I did it because I was 19 years old, I didn’t know what I wanted to do and I wanted to be James Bond for 18 months." Skarsgard pressed the view of bringing this idea into the big screen and entered the spirit of the offer, saying: "I could be a very polite, diplomatic Swedish James Bond who is negotiating. There will be no violence at all. There will only be sessions in the meeting room where people try to find consensus, everyone is stressed and desperate to avoid an argument or complications, that’s very Swedish. I will put it up!"

Skarsgard’s Current Projects

Skarsgard, who brought his big break in Zoolander and has recently been published as a tech mogul in Succession, next appears in Murderbot, an AppleTV+ series based on the sci-fi novel series Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. Skarsgard plays an Android as a security officer for people who work on other planets. He said to The Times that this follows a number of darker characters, “to lean into the comedy – that’s a real explosion.”
