However, the first surprising reviews have arrived, and it’s now official: the new Marvel entry is freshly certified on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 87%.

A Much-Needed Victory

The score is quite uplifting because Marvel fans urgently need a victory. At the beginning of this year, Captain America: Brave New World managed to stand out at the box office and became one of the highest-grossing titles of the year with over $400 million. However, it was still received lukewarmly, with a score of 48% from critics, although the audience liked it much better, setting it at 78%. Nevertheless, it was not the comeback that fans hoped for in the MCU. Now it looks like Thunderbolts* has succeeded where others failed.

Back to Basics

In his review, Collider’s Ross Bonaime found that “the MCU has just saved itself” and that “Thunderbolts* goes back to the basics of what worked beforehand.” He wrote:

Thunderbolts* is a delicate balance of sound that director Jake Schreier deals with quite well. This digs deeper than most Marvel films, but it has also been a film with some of the funniest action scenes and comedic moments in this universe for years. Thunderbolts*, like the best films of the MCU, makes the character king, story matters, and all other superhero elements must be built from it.

Ending Phase Five on a High Note

Thunderbolts* offers a number of anti-heroes that have participated in several Marvel entries over the years. The group of misfits bands together to take down their former boss, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). The cast shows Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Sebastian Stan (Avengers: Endgame), Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Olga Kurylenko (Black Widow), and David Harbour (Black Widow), as well as Lewis Pullman (Salem’s Lot) and Geraldine Viswanathan (Miracle Workers).

A New Era for Marvel

If the audience reception of Thunderbolts* complies with or even exceeds the positive impressions of critics, we will inevitably hope for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is one of the most anticipated Marvel films ever. However, there is a difference in tone between the two films. Apart from the obvious fact that Thunderbolts* is much darker and cynical than the optimistic F4, the former represents the end of a very long phase five in the entire Marvel universe, and the latter starts phase six – a new era that will include X-Men and the first Avenger film in seven years. Perhaps the audience is okay with the change in pace.

Get Ready for the Premiere

Thunderbolts* premieres this Friday. With its fresh certification on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s sure to be a hit among Marvel fans.

Source: Rotten Tomatoes

A New Hope for Marvel Fans As the supporters of Thunderbolts*, Marvel fans were concerned about the studio’s recent problems, particularly with Guardian of the Galaxy.
