More than \u00a313 million has been donated to a town’s foundation as it continues its work to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents. The money from Luton Rising, the Luton Borough Council company that owns London Luton Airport, was made available to Active Luton to secure investment in leisure and library services by 2030.<\/p>\n
The council hoped the funding would \u201cencourage participation in physical activity and create learning and career opportunities\u201d. The focus will be \u201con reducing health inequalities, improving education, reducing crime and supporting sustainability,\u201d the council added.<\/p>\n
Active Luton chief executive Lawrence Kay said the support had \u201cplayed a crucial role in our journey from the start and has been crucial to our growth and reach within the community\u201d. He said the money would \u201chelp us improve the health, wellbeing and opportunities of people across Luton\u201d.<\/p>\n
Labor councilor Javeria Hussain, deputy chair of Luton Rising, said: \u201cThis new agreement reflects a shared commitment to making a long-term positive difference to the lives of Luton residents.\u201d \u201cThe continuity provided by our renewed commitment supports our shared ambitions to further improve lives through health, wellbeing and learning.\u201d<\/p>\n
The council said research by independent consultants Volterra found that \u201cfor every \u00a31 Active Luton receives in funding, more than \u00a37.40 in social return is generated \u2013 equating to an estimated benefit of \u00a344 million to the local community in 2023\/24 alone\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
