This number is all the more remarkable considering that nobody had heard of the film until two weeks ago, when AMC Theater’s distribution announced the limited commitment and worked with Variance Films to publish it in 3,702 cinemas, including non-AMC sites.

Taylor Swift’s Success

It is unprecedented for a film to top the charts with just two weeks of marketing, demonstrating the potent fan base of the Swifties behind the generation talent. The film has achieved an A+ Cinemascore and recorded the recording of the album Eras World Tour, which was released alongside the album The Life of a Show Girl. According to Billboard, the album sold 2.7 million units in traditional album sales – physically and digitally – on October 3 in the USA, leading to Swift’s greatest week of all time in the music charts and the second-best sales week of the modern era since Luminate started tracking publication data in 1991.

Comparison to Other Films

AMC calls this the only album debut cinema event that opens number one in North America. In combination with $13 million from 54 international areas, the global count is $46 million. In comparison, Warner Bros’ Oscar candidate One Battle After Another placed second with $11.1 million out of 3,634 locations after a decrease of 49%. Paul Thomas Anderson’s action adventure with Leonardo DiCaprio is at $42.8 million after two weekends and has crossed $100 million at the international box office.

The Smashing Machine

Dwayne Johnson’s offer for Oscar Glory with A24’s The Smashing Machine has the star plaudits, and the new feature, which was premiered in Venice, reached third place with an estimated $6 million out of 3,345 locations. For the record, this is the lowest opening weekend in Johnson’s history, and the R-rated film did not help in the days leading up to publication, nor did the fact that the Taylor Swift function devoured the PLF screens available.

Top Five Films

The top five films were rounded off by the G-rated live-action/animation of Universal/Dreamworks animation Gabby’s Doll House: The Film in fourth place after a weekend of $5.2 million out of 3,507 locations, bringing its total to $21.6 million after two weekends. Warner Bros’ The Magic: Last Rites placed fifth after $4.1 million, bringing its total to $167.8 million, making it the highest entry in the 12-year-old franchise in any way.

Other Notable Films

Disney’s new publication by James Cameron’s 2022 smash, re-published by 20th Century Studios, Avatar: The Way of Water, placed seventh with $3.2 million out of 2,140 locations before the publication of December 19’s Avatar: Fire & Ash. The Path of Water earned $685 million in North America by the end of its first run and occupies the seventieth film ever, with $2.3 billion globally, placing it in the world’s pantheon behind Avengers: Endgame in second and the first Avatar in first place with $2.9 billion.

Good Boy and Kantara

The opening in ninth place was Ben Leonberg’s supernatural thriller Good Boy, which shuddered with a strong $2.3 million out of 1,650 locations. This was the third-best opening of the IFC Entertainment Group behind Rlje’s Clown in a Corn Field to $3.6 million in May this year and the 2023 SXSW premiere of Independent Film Company Late Night with the Devil to $2.8 million. Number 10 was filled by newcomers Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 through Prathyangira Cinemas to $1.7 million. Rishab Shetty’s action thriller is the continuation of his 2022 feature about a young member of a tribe who seeks revenge.

Box Office Total

The three-day cash register reached an estimated $82.3 million via Comscore, with the $6.7 billion year-to-date following 4% before 2024 at the same stage.

Box Office Results The biggest pop star in the world has made it a one-week theater phenomenon with the official publication party of a show girl, blowing up the competition in North America with an estimated $33 million.
