For singer-songwriter Hannah Bahng, her latest publication, The Misunderstood EP<\/em>, was the ultimate possibility of self-discovery. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> at the PMC office in LA, Bahng reflected on the meaning behind her album. "I didn’t just feel misunderstood by my surroundings and people. I had misunderstandings about myself," she said.<\/p>\n Bahng’s seven-track album, which includes previously published songs "Sweet Satin Boy", "Orchid \/ Flame", and "What Never Lived", is an experience she hopes her listeners can relate to and connect with. "Music has always been very therapeutic for me, and it’s a way for me to get everything I need to get out," she explained. The process of writing music has been cathartic for Bahng, allowing her to understand herself better. "It really helps to see this on paper and to hear it sound. I start to understand myself much better. I can see and hear it," she added.<\/p>\n One of the tracks on the new EP, "I’m me again", was a perfect example of Bahng working through her emotions. "When I wrote it, I cried. I’m a baby. I am honestly a baby," she said, recalling the emotional experience of writing the song. Bahng also admitted that it can be difficult to take a second to think about her own journey, and sometimes she forgets herself. "Sometimes I forget myself," she said, adding that she felt overwhelmed with the preparation of the album weeks ago.<\/p>\n During those overwhelming moments, Bahng found support and guidance from her mother. "I just had to call my mother, and at first, I don’t know how – she knew immediately that something was going on," Bahng said. Her mother offered some advice, reminding Bahng to take it slowly and be grateful for the smallest things. "Just take it slowly," Bahng recalled her mother saying. "Be grateful for the smallest things and remember that you do this because you love it and enjoy the process where you are."<\/p>\n Bahng has taken control of her career, starting her own label, Bahng Entertainment, to remain independent as an artist. "It was very discouraging for me at first. I didn’t know that this was a way that I could go," she admitted. However, she has found success in being in creative control of her career. "In terms of stage production, I was at the top of the attempt to think about paths and creative things that we can do to make the stage look good," she said.<\/p>\n Touring has allowed Bahng to bring "a face to the comment" for supporters who have held her music dear. She remembers meeting a fan account during her last tour, Instagram user Hannah Bahng USA. "They don’t meet me at the moment. I meet them. You did so much for my career," Bahng repeated the feelings she shared with her fan during her tour discussion. "I all made it to her to say hello. I said: ‘Guys, this is Hannah Bahng USA, you are better nice. That is [a] VIP at the moment,’" she continued. "When you see the face behind the fan side, the face behind the comment … It’s really nice to see that there are real people who take care of as much as it is important to me.
