However, in a surprising turn, the 2006 film Mission: Impossible III is experiencing a revival of its own on streaming platforms. According to Flixpatrol, the JJ Abrams-directed film is currently ranked #10 in the USA on Paramount+, and there’s a very good reason for this.

The Villain that Stole the Show

Mission: Impossible III has all the explosive stunts that you would expect from an Ethan Hunt adventure, but what makes it special is the villain. Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Owen Davian remains the gold standard for antagonists in this franchise. In fact, Mission: Impossible III is the only entry in which the villain is just as convincing as Tom Cruise’s indestructible IMF agent, with his flawless stuntwork and endless, relentless running.

A Crucial Moment for the Franchise

The third film arrived at a crucial moment for the franchise. After the slow-motion bombing of Mission: Impossible II, Abrams brought the series back to its roots with a closer, more exciting story. At the heart of this tension was Hoffman’s cold-blooded weapon dealer Owen Davian, who didn’t want to take over the world, just make a lot of money and kill everyone who stood in his way.

Maggie Q Makes a Comeback

A New Chapter in the Bosch-Verse

Mission: Impossible III is also notable for marking Maggie Q’s debut in the Mission: Impossible franchise, where she played IMF Agent Zhen Lei in one of her early Hollywood roles. Almost two decades later, she’s finally leading her own major franchise. This July, Maggie Q returns to the world of gritty, determined detectives in Ballard, the upcoming Bosch spin-off premiering on Prime Video. She plays Renée Ballard, a former homicide detective who made her debut in Bosch: Legacy‘s series finale.

A New Chapter for Renée Ballard

After the controversial decision by Amazon to end Bosch: Legacy, Ballard represents a new chapter in the constantly growing Bosch-Verse. But don’t make a mistake – this is Ballard’s story, and Maggie Q is ready to wear the torch. Supported by real LAPD detective Mitzi Roberts (who inspired the character and serves as a producer), Maggie Q is set to bring this complex and intriguing character to life.

Streaming Now

Mission: Impossible III is currently available to stream on Paramount+, and Ballard premieres on Prime Video on July 9th.
